Hayward Unified School District engaged Verde Design to provide design services for a series of projects across three distinct school locations. These initiatives include the transformation of natural grass fields and cinder tracks into synthetic turf and all-weather track surfaces at three high schools. Additionally, the scope of the project encompasses the installation of new bleacher seating for spectators, enhanced sports field lighting, scoreboards, restrooms, concession stands, ticketing facilities, and team room buildings, along with improvements to accessibility features.
Hayward High School: A distinctive aspect of the Hayward High School project is the stadium entrance, which is accessed directly from the ticket booth. As spectators enter through the gates, they are welcomed by a stunning elevated perspective of the playing field, complemented by a picturesque view of the San Francisco Bay in the background. Following this initial experience, guests navigate a lengthy ramp that leads them to the bleachers, track and field facilities, as well as the restrooms. This project was recognized with the 2018 Track & Field of the Year award by ASBA.
Mt. Eden High School: The enhancements at Mt. Eden have resulted in an expanded parking lot and a well-defined entrance sequence for the athletic campus. These upgrades to the stadium facilitate the future integration of baseball and softball facilities, allowing them to utilize the stadium’s plaza, concession areas, and restroom facilities. Additionally, the project features the installation of new bleachers with a capacity of 2,700 seats, complemented by a press box and a public address system, as well as the creation of a new team room.
Tennyson High School: A fundamental aspect of Tennyson High School’s stadium design involved establishing seamless connections between the various athletic facilities and the newly introduced amenities. Enhanced circulation routes were created to facilitate access from the existing venues to the stadium, incorporating essential structures such as the press box, concession stand, and ticketing booth.
