Multiple Parks, Santa Clara

In alignment with the City of Santa Clara’s initiative to improve community sports and recreational facilities, the City selected Verde Design to undertake several projects. These included the development of a new community park and playground, along with the renovation of three existing community parks.

Bowers Park: The latest project undertaken in the City features a thoughtfully designed park that encompasses picnic spots, barbecue facilities, a dedicated children’s play area, and restroom amenities. The playground is particularly noteworthy as it integrates the seven fundamental elements of play: balancing, brachiating, climbing, sliding, spinning, swinging, and sensory experiences, all while harmoniously incorporating natural features and trees into the landscape. The ultimate design was shaped through a comprehensive process of community engagement, ensuring that the needs and preferences of local residents were thoroughly considered.

Bracher Park: The renovation of the park featured the addition of new observation zones equipped with benches and seating walls that are seamlessly integrated into the surrounding curbing. The previous sand surface was replaced with an ADA-compliant Fibar resilient surfacing, accompanied by an upgraded drainage system. Furthermore, the project encompassed the installation of new landscaping and an irrigation system, enhancing the overall ambiance and providing shade for the picnic and observation areas.

Carli Park: This project involved collaboration with the City and a contractor specializing in playground installations to integrate new play equipment, as well as perimeter curbs, walls, and pads, complemented by the addition of new benches for observation and social gatherings. The introduction of the new play equipment necessitated an expansion of the area, which in turn required grading, the introduction of new plantings, and modifications to the existing irrigation system. As a result of Verde Design’s contributions to Carli Park, the space was transformed into a vibrant community asset that offered enhanced opportunities for recreation and play.

Machado Park:This initiative received funding through the Playtime Grant from Playcore, which is dedicated to supporting the development of inclusive playgrounds that feature age-appropriate equipment and activities. The Verde Design team undertook the task of enhancing Machado Park’s playground, a project that emerged from a thorough process of community engagement and feedback. The revamped playground design introduces a nature-themed play area tailored for children aged 5 to 12, alongside a distinct tot-lot designed for younger children. This tot-lot is equipped with a built-in slide that gracefully descends from the summit of a mound that divides the two play areas, which is adorned with drought-resistant plants and native grasses. The design reflects the insights and preferences of local residents regarding the playground and park features, fostering spaces that are friendly to various age groups, with thoughtfully designed pathways and inclusive play areas that emphasize health, fitness, sustainability, and the preservation of the natural environment.
