Our partnership with San Mateo-Foster City School District commenced in 2021 with a significant project: the refurbishment of the playfield at Foster City Elementary School. The previous field, characterized by uneven grass and rocky areas, posed safety risks that rendered it unsuitable for student use. Verde Design was initially engaged to replace the natural grass with a safe, versatile synthetic turf field. As the project unfolded, the scope broadened to incorporate enhancements to the smaller play area in the Kinder Section, alongside a range of accessibility improvements, including ADA-compliant drinking fountains, updated gates, and redesigned parking lots and pathways. The successful completion of this project not only established an optimal environment for students, educators, and parents but also garnered commendations from the District, thereby laying the foundation for a fruitful collaboration.
What began as a single contract has evolved into a comprehensive partnership that now encompasses 17 campuses across the District. The program elements at each location have been diverse, featuring enhancements such as the installation of new synthetic turf multi-purpose fields designed for soccer, softball, and kickball, as well as a jogging track. Additional improvements included asphalt play striping, renovations of play courts, landscape beautification, and upgrades to irrigation and drainage systems. Accessibility has also been a priority, with significant renovations made to parking lots, sidewalks, gates, restrooms, drinking fountains, and accessible drop-off areas.
This expansion has been significantly supported by our collaboration with Robert A. Bothman Construction, with whom we have implemented a design-build delivery method for the majority of our projects within the District. This approach has enabled us to leverage their expertise in construction and project management, resulting in a cohesive and efficient working relationship. The partnership among Verde Design, Robert A. Bothman Construction, and the District has developed into a strong and lasting collaboration, one that we are enthusiastic about continuing as we work towards enhancing and advancing the District’s facilities.
