San Rafael City Schools selected Verde Design to provide planning and design services for a series of athletic, recreation, and accessibility improvement projects across multiple campuses, including Terra Linda High School, Davidson Middle School, San Pedro Elementary School, Bahia Vista Elementary School, and Old Gallinas Children’s Center. The projects were developed to enhance physical education and recreational opportunities while improving campus accessibility, functionality, and long-term facility performance. Working closely with District staff and stakeholders, Verde Design prepared individual improvement packages tailored to the unique needs of each campus while navigating multiple procurement methods and Division of the State Architect (DSA) review processes.
Terra Linda High School: Improvements focused on modernizing the school’s athletic facilities through the relocation of track and field events within the existing stadium complex, accessibility upgrades, and supporting infrastructure improvements. The project also included enhancements that improve functionality for athletes, coaches, event staff, and spectators while positioning the facility to support future athletic programming needs.
Davidson Middle School: Davidson represents one of the District’s most comprehensive athletic improvement projects. The design transforms an existing natural grass field into a synthetic turf multi-use facility supporting soccer, flag football, baseball, and physical education activities, while also reimagining the campus hardcourt areas with new basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and recreational play opportunities. Supporting infrastructure improvements include drainage, irrigation, accessibility, and utility upgrades throughout the site.
San Pedro Elementary School and Bahia Vista Elementary School: These projects focus on expanding year-round recreation opportunities through the conversion of existing natural grass playfields to synthetic turf surfaces designed for youth sports and physical education. Additional improvements include playground enhancements, outdoor learning spaces, shade structures, landscaping, and circulation improvements that create more functional and engaging environments for students. Construction at San Pedro Elementary School has been completed, while improvements at Bahia Vista Elementary School are currently under construction.
Old Gallinas Children’s Center: Improvements at Old Gallinas focused on enhancing campus accessibility through upgraded walkways, ramps, and site circulation improvements, helping create a safer and more accessible environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Building upon this successful partnership, Verde Design continues to assist the District with the implementation of athletic and recreation facility improvements across multiple campuses. Construction has been completed at San Pedro Elementary School, while projects at Terra Linda High School, Davidson Middle School, Bahia Vista Elementary School, and Old Gallinas Children’s Center are in various stages of construction and completion. Collectively, these projects support San Rafael City Schools’ commitment to providing high-quality recreational and educational environments for its students and community.
