Bryte Park, covering an area of 25 acres, is located in the City of West Sacramento, adjacent to Riverbank Elementary School. The City initiated plans for the park’s renovation in 2013, and in January 2023, Verde Design was appointed to develop and implement the master plan. While the park is situated on land owned by the Washington Unified School District, it is primarily utilized by the public for recreational activities, with student use limited to tennis. The proposed improvements to the park will require approval from the City and may include the construction of three lighted softball fields measuring 300 feet in the outfield, a synthetic turf soccer field equipped with lights and perimeter fencing, natural turf soccer fields, and a facility featuring an Aquatic and Community Room. This facility is expected to house a pool measuring 75 feet by 88 feet, complete with water play features, a splash pad with a recirculation system, picnic shelters, restroom and concession buildings, a maintenance yard, a dog park, an outdoor classroom, walking trails, fitness stations, and a ninja course, as well as parking, tennis courts, a basketball court, and an amphitheater.
The City has successfully obtained $15 million in grant funding through the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) Program, which is managed by the National Park Service and financed by the Land and Water Conservation Fund. This highly competitive program offers up to 50% matching funds aimed at bolstering outdoor recreation in urban settings. With the support of the ORLP grant, the development of Bryte Park will proceed as a single-phase project. However, construction is not slated to commence until November 2025, contingent upon the finalization of the agreement. The City Council is expected to approve the final plans in the summer of 2025.
