Gibson Park is a multi-phase recreational sports complex in Roseville, California, designed to expand the City’s growing inventory of high-quality outdoor athletic and community recreation facilities. Verde Design partnered with the City to develop the master plan, Phase I construction documents, and construction administration services for the 13-acre sports facility, creating a flexible and modern destination for racket sports, active recreation, and community gathering.
The first phase of the project introduced nine lighted pickleball courts, shaded seating areas, a City-standard comfort station, accessible parking improvements, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The facility was thoughtfully designed to support both recreational and competitive play while providing comfortable spectator and gathering spaces that enhance the overall park experience.
As pickleball participation continues to rapidly grow throughout California, Gibson Park was designed to help meet increasing community demand for dedicated outdoor courts and organized recreational opportunities. Court layouts, circulation, lighting, accessibility, and supporting amenities were carefully coordinated to create an efficient, welcoming, and highly functional recreational environment capable of supporting daily community use as well as larger events and tournaments.
Future phases of the park will continue expanding recreational opportunities through the addition of pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts, enhanced landscaping, improved signage, expanded parking, and a walking and fitness loop with exercise stations that will further activate the site and support multi-generational recreation.
The project received national recognition through the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), earning the ASBA Outdoor Pickleball Silver Award for excellence in sports facility design and construction. Gibson Park now serves as a premier recreational destination within the City of Roseville and reflects the City’s commitment to investing in healthy, active, and community-oriented public spaces.
