David Cutino Park stands as one of the most frequented multi-purpose parks within the City of Seaside, catering to a population exceeding 30,000 residents. However, the maintenance and renovation efforts for the park had not kept pace with its extensive usage, leading to a pressing need for facility upgrades.
In March 2016, the City commissioned Disability Access Consultants (DAC) to conduct a thorough assessment aimed at identifying barriers to ADA access within the park, which ultimately resulted in securing a grant dedicated to ADA enhancements. Subsequently, the City engaged Verde Design to create a comprehensive master plan that would incorporate feedback from community members and park stakeholders, guiding the design of the necessary upgrades and improvements. The renovation included the transformation of the field into synthetic turf, complemented by new fencing, a backstop, and enhanced access features, allowing both children and adults to utilize the fields for practices and games in any weather conditions.
Additionally, the design incorporated a skate park featuring 6,500 square feet of dedicated skate space, developed through consultations with local skaters to ensure their ideas and preferences were reflected in the final design. The Seaside community has also gained from the park’s newly upgraded restroom and concessions buildings, both of which now meet ADA standards and relevant building codes.
