De La Salle High School boasts a distinguished reputation in both academics and athletics, with its baseball program recently achieving notable success. In light of this, the school aimed to enhance its existing baseball stadium to reflect the high standards of its athletic program. Given the limited land availability on campus for athletic fields, it was essential that the renovation not only improved the baseball facility but also transformed the field into a versatile space. The redesigned field needed to accommodate various sports, including soccer, lacrosse, and rugby, as well as physical education activities when baseball was not in session. Additionally, the project required the integration of storage solutions for all athletic programs. To address the displacement of staff parking caused by the renovations, a new parking lot was planned and constructed to ensure that the necessary number of parking stalls was maintained. Every inch of available space on the site was meticulously organized to incorporate all required elements in a logical and efficient manner, ensuring that the project met the diverse needs of the school’s athletic community.
The School faced a pressing need to transition from natural grass to synthetic turf due to the high demand for field usage. To facilitate this conversion, Verde Design leveraged its extensive expertise in synthetic turf systems alongside its technical proficiency in stormwater management to secure the City of Concord’s approval for the post-construction Storm Water Control Plan. Given the complexities associated with the project’s funding sources, the design team was tasked with strategically phasing the project to ensure that each stage could be seamlessly built upon in the future, while simultaneously addressing the School’s immediate priorities in the initial Phase 1. Throughout the project, funding dynamics required the design team to remain agile, adapting to incorporate elements from later phases into the first phase of construction as necessary, while postponing other components to subsequent phases. The schedule was of utmost importance, necessitating a high level of efficiency in implementing any changes to guarantee that the field would be ready for its grand opening in the Spring of 2025, a goal that was successfully achieved.
