With the amount of use Garfield Square Park had received since its initial installation, the City of San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department hired Verde Design to refurbish it after so much activity throughout the years. As a local park and sports field for the neighborhood, we needed to provide a quality field project with minimal closure time, so the community was able to use the field again. The existing rock base material remained, and an underlayment pad was placed between the base and new synthetic turf to increase positive drainage and enhance player safety.
Additional upgrades to the project included: new concrete walkway connections to existing field entries for better field access; bench seating along the field’s sidelines to enhance the field’s aesthetics and connection to the overall park; park signage upgrades to the new department standard; new soccer goals and safety padding for existing sport field lighting poles located within the field improved player safety; and additional quick couplers allow for maintenance to wash down the field after heavy community use.
