Irvine Valley College, a prominent community college situated in Southern California, is committed to offering outstanding academic and athletic opportunities for its students, faculty, and visitors. In an effort to elevate the sports experience for its athletic programs, Verde Design undertook the renovation of several sports facilities within the College’s 16-acre campus. This comprehensive project encompassed the refurbishment of the natural grass varsity soccer field, practice soccer field, recreation soccer field, baseball field, and volleyball area. Additionally, the redesign incorporated new fencing, sports netting, graphic windscreens, fan gateway signage for each facility, and enhancements to the irrigation system.
To tackle the challenge posed by offshore winds that affected baseball gameplay by limiting home runs, Verde Design devised an innovative solution. This involved the construction of a striking 20-foot-high blue wall in right field, which not only mitigated the wind issue but also contributed a unique characteristic to the identity of IVC’s baseball field. The redesign further included repositioning the outfield fence inward by as much as 25 feet in certain areas, creating a distinctive challenge for hitters. The results of these enhancements were overwhelmingly positive, with visiting teams and coaches expressing their approval of the revamped facility, leading to more thrilling games for both players and spectators alike.
