Verde Design has been collaborating with Marin Community College District since the inception of our partnership in 2010. Our initial undertaking involved significant site enhancements at the College of Marin’s Kentfield campus, which encompassed the resurfacing of the all-weather track and improvements of the irrigation and drainage systems. This project necessitated the removal of the existing bleachers, followed by the installation of foundational materials and a paved substrate.
Throughout the design phase, we offered strategic recommendations to the District regarding the selection of the track surfacing material. Initially, the District opted for a more costly surfacing option, influenced by strong community sentiment, despite it not being the most suitable choice for the project. Ultimately, by choosing a more appropriate material, the College was able to incorporate additional program elements from the bid alternates, including long/triple jump runways, pole vault runway, and shot put. Furthermore, they successfully managed a change order requested by the owner, which involved the demolition and repaving of extra areas, the reinstallation of a hose bib and drinking fountain, and the removal and replacement of the existing storm drain check valve.
Our latest project at the College, funded by the Measure B bond, focused on the renovation of athletic facilities in two distinct phases. Phase 1 encompassed the development of four tennis courts, a synthetic turf field for soccer and lacrosse, a beach volleyball area, synthetic turf workout zones, the relocation of existing long and triple jump pits within the track oval, as well as enhancements to landscaping and irrigation. Phase 2 involved the construction of a new baseball facility featuring CMU dugouts, a 30-foot tall netted backstop, a batting cage, a synthetic turf field, a scoreboard integrated into the leftfield fence, and a bleacher system with a capacity of 250 seats. Additionally, this phase included the establishment of a synthetic turf futsal court, along with further landscaping, irrigation, and an entryway.
