Ohlone Community College District engaged Verde Design to enhance its Fremont campus with the addition of three new sports fields, following a comprehensive renovation of its athletic facilities. This new athletic complex encompasses nearly 14 acres and includes a synthetic turf soccer field compliant with NCAA standards, as well as synthetic turf fields for baseball and softball, along with batting cages and a newly designed plaza that links the three fields together.
Verde Design was chosen to collaborate with the District and its contractor to execute this project. In partnership with District staff, the team devised strategies to safeguard the existing historic olive trees that are located within the project area. Additionally, we skillfully navigated the challenges posed by the site’s underground utilities and easements to ensure sustainable and efficient access for the future. The design also harmoniously combined functional aspects with aesthetic and environmentally conscious solutions, incorporating native and indigenous plantings throughout the area to enhance its beauty while also adhering to stormwater management practices. Given the College’s hillside location, the design featured numerous ramps and stairs to facilitate connectivity, along with retaining walls to ensure the fields were properly graded.
