VERDE DESIGN DEVELOPED Master Plans and designed renovations for athletic facilities for the Palo Alto and Gunn High School campuses. Verde was initially retained to design improvements to the stadium fields at both high schools. The scope of our work was then expanded to include the Gunn campus ‘Lower Fields’–baseball, softball and soccer/multi-use fields. At the Palo Alto High School campus, we renovated the El Camino Field, used for lacrosse and field hockey, as well as the baseball/softball/multi-use field.
The primary improvements for the stadium fields at both high schools were replacing the existing natural grass fields with synthetic turf. The synthetic turf is permanently lined for football, soccer and field events. It includes a permanent school logo at the center of the 50-yard line, and end zone lettering. Synthetic turf was selected for the fields because it will stand up to the intense use of the fields, permit more hours of play, and save the District money by reducing water use and maintenance costs. We also provided design recommendations for future improvements to the stadium tracks.
