Verde Design is proud to celebrate the recent grand opening of Treasure Cove at Jade Street Park alongside the City of Capitola (City) and community members. The newly renovated playground at the park creates a more inclusive, engaging, and accessible destination for recreation and gathering, anchored by a new universally accessible, marine-themed playground designed to serve children of all ages and abilities.
Located adjacent to the Capitola Community Center, Jade Street Park is an important neighborhood recreation destination for the community. The project reimagines the park’s aging play area and surrounding site improvements while creating stronger connections between the playground, Community Center, sports facilities, and other park amenities. Inspired by Capitola’s coastal setting, the Treasure Cove design incorporates a shoreline and marine theme that provides opportunities for imaginative play and exploration.
Working closely with the City and community stakeholders, Verde Design helped lead an extensive community engagement process that included public meetings, online surveys, and pop-up events. Community input played an important role in shaping the project’s design and priorities, including the selection of the Treasure Cove name and the development of an inclusive play environment. The resulting design features distinct play areas for toddlers and children ages 5–12, with accessible play structures, swings, spinners, slides, climbing elements, and sensory play opportunities.
Beyond the playground, the project includes accessible pathways connecting the parking area, playground, Community Center, and sports facilities, along with new site furnishings, seating areas, landscaping, irrigation, drainage improvements, and enhanced gathering spaces. Additional improvements to the Jade Street Park site include renovated public restrooms, new patios, and improvements that strengthen the connection between the park’s recreational amenities and the Community Center.
Verde Design is honored to have partnered with the City of Capitola and project stakeholders to bring this community-driven vision to life and congratulates the City on the successful opening of Treasure Cove at Jade Street Park. The completed improvements provide a welcoming and inclusive space where Capitola’s children, families, and community members can play, gather, and create memories for years to come.
