Ramsay Park, Watsonville

Ramsay Park, encompassing roughly 22 acres, offers a variety of recreational facilities for the residents of Watsonville. Located next to the Watsonville Slough, the park not only serves as a sanctuary for local wildlife but also provides educational resources to foster an understanding of the area’s natural environment. Development of the site began in the 1960s, and it has since transformed into a vital community hub.

In collaboration with Verde Design, the City of Watsonville has engaged with stakeholders to formulate a strategic plan focused on enhancing park programs while addressing both environmental and community needs. The master plan outlines the addition of new and upgraded amenities, including sports fields equipped with spectator seating, a designated dog park catering to both small and large breeds, communal seating and picnic areas for social gatherings, and an inclusive play area designed for individuals of all ages and abilities.

A network of multi-use trails winds through the park, facilitating access from both the northern and southern entry points. The northern Main Street parking area has been revamped to incorporate more ADA-compliant parking spaces and to improve traffic flow. Furthermore, the site features strategically placed filter strips and stormwater management systems to control peak water flows, enhance water quality, and support groundwater recharge through natural infiltration processes.

The Watsonville Ramsay Park project is currently under construction, with an anticipated completion date in the Fall of 2025. Once finished, the park is set to continue its role as a central community space, providing a healthy outdoor environment for all residents to enjoy.
