Rengstorff Park, Mountain View

Verde Design collaborated with the City of Mountain View and the Magical Bridge Foundation to develop the construction documents for the Magical Bridge playground located at Rengstorff Park. Verde Design provided continuous support throughout the construction process to guarantee that the project aligned with its original vision. This collaborative effort proved successful, culminating in the recent opening of the park following the completion of construction.

The Magical Bridge playground is designed to be fully inclusive, catering to individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with varying levels of cognitive, physical, and mental challenges. The playground and its surrounding areas are thoughtfully designed to be accessible, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the space.

These playgrounds serve as valuable assets to the local community, functioning as destination sites that provide unique opportunities for play and social interaction. The Mountain View playground features an existing play area, a shade structure, and numerous mature trees set within a vast expanse of open space. The design incorporates vibrant colored concrete paving, permeable pavers, and accessible pathways that meander throughout the playground. Key elements include an entry/donor wall over Ava’s Bridge, an engaging swing zone, a spin zone, a tot lot, a nature play area, and a sloped walkway leading to an exhilarating synthetic turf slide and climbing mound. Additionally, an elevated sway bridge and bridge walk connect to a whimsical two-story playhouse, which features a stage area and terrace seating below. The design also integrates large shade trees, landscaped areas, and a bio planter, with plans for new shade trees and colorful landscaping to enhance the spacious open areas.
