Saint Mary’s College High School

Verde Design successfully addressed the challenge of enhancing the athletic facilities at Saint Mary’s College High School, all while working within the limited space of the existing site. Given the school’s hillside location, the design incorporated a comprehensive structural retaining wall system to ensure stability and functionality.

The layout of the Saint Mary’s site is distinctive, featuring a soccer and football field, a synthetic turf track event area, and a baseball field, all arranged within a triangular all-weather track to optimize the available playing surfaces. Enhancements to the football and soccer fields included the installation of new bleachers and upgrades to accessibility features. The project also encompassed perimeter landscaping enhancements, the installation of new fencing around the site, and the addition of a storage building. Furthermore, the baseball facilities received significant upgrades, including new bleachers, a backstop, batting cages, bullpens, landscaping improvements, and a dedicated storage building. To support these enhancements, new drainage, utility, and electrical infrastructure were meticulously designed, including an underground detention system to comply with local stormwater management regulations.

Throughout the project, Verde Design played a pivotal role in navigating the political landscape, guiding the school through the comprehensive planning approval process with the City, while also facilitating constructive dialogue among the City, school staff, and local community groups to address any concerns raised by the neighborhood.
