The San Jose Evergreen Community College District engaged Verde Design to develop a comprehensive master plan for the stadium located at San Jose City College. Following this initiative, the District selected Verde Design to execute the complete design and documentation for the initial phase of the project, which involved the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the track and field area, the addition of new perimeter walkways and amenities, and the installation of a larger, more accommodating bleacher system for visitors. The project received approval from the Division of the State Architect (DSA) after undergoing thorough reviews concerning accessibility, fire and life safety, and structural integrity.
Key design objectives included expanding the turf field to enhance safety buffers for football activities while integrating an NCAA-standard soccer pitch. Additionally, the College aimed to facilitate future NCAA Track and Field events, prompting a reconfiguration of the track around the enlarged turf field, with throwing and jumping events relocated beyond the oval. The existing steeplechase was preserved as a significant feature to support the venue’s event hosting capabilities. Both the track and field received new surfacing, accompanied by essential upgrades to accessibility, drainage, safety, and overall facility infrastructure. Notable accessibility enhancements included the reconstruction of the visitor bleachers and improvements to the stadium restrooms and parking areas.
