Verde Design was engaged by Devcon Construction to deliver design-build services for the San Jose Earthquakes practice facility, which features a sand-based natural grass field measuring 75 by 115 yards, along with additional areas for practice. The project was successfully completed within a few months, which is largely attributed to the meticulous coordination and planning executed by our team during the design phase.
The Verde Design team maintained a daily presence on-site to facilitate construction administration, ensuring that the field was completed on schedule and within budget constraints. Comprehensive drainage and irrigation designs were developed, including detailed specifications, and we coordinated with a booster pump manufacturer to implement an air gap system, which is a requirement set forth by the City of San Jose. One of the notable challenges was the coordination of the booster pump and the above-grade main line. To mitigate the risk of breaks due to pressure surges from the booster pump, we upgraded the irrigation pipes to ductile iron in specific locations.
Additionally, the irrigation and electrical connection points were routed through adjacent properties, with the main line connection established 1,000 feet from the field. This main line was installed above grade to avoid any disruption to neighboring properties.
