Verde Design was retained by the Calistoga Wildcats Athletic Booster Club to develop a comprehensive athletic facilities master plan for Calistoga Junior-Senior High School, establishing a long-term vision for modernizing the school’s athletic facilities while providing the Calistoga Joint Unified School District with a clear understanding of future programming opportunities, site constraints, implementation strategies, and project costs. One of the primary challenges was the limited size of the athletic campus, where existing baseball, softball, tennis, and track and field facilities were compressed within a footprint that would typically accommodate only a portion of the desired athletic program. Working closely with the Booster Club, School District, and project stakeholders, Verde Design developed a creative and efficient master plan that maximized the available space while improving circulation, functionality, spectator experience, and the overall organization of the campus athletic facilities.
Building upon the athletic facilities master plan, Verde Design was subsequently retained by the District to provide final design, construction documentation, and construction administration services for the first phase of implementation. The project included a new all-weather track, synthetic turf athletic field designed for 8-man football and soccer, sports field lighting, spectator bleachers, accessibility improvements, utilities, grading, drainage, and supporting site infrastructure. Verde Design worked closely with the District and neighboring residents to develop a DarkSky-compliant sports lighting system that balanced the needs of the athletic program while minimizing off-site light spill and neighborhood impacts. Site infrastructure improvements were also designed to support the long-term implementation of future phases identified in the athletic facilities master plan. Recently completed, the project has transformed the school’s primary athletic venue into a modern, high-quality facility that supports physical education, interscholastic athletics, and community events throughout the year.
