Verde Design is proud to celebrate the recent grand opening of the renovated Sunnyvale Community Center Grounds alongside the City of Sunnyvale and community members. The revitalized project transforms the outdoor spaces surrounding the Sunnyvale Community Center into a more connected, flexible, and community-focused environment that supports recreation, gathering, and year-round programming.
Home to Sunnyvale’s Performing Arts, Creative Arts, Recreation, Senior, and Indoor Sports Centers, the Community Center serves as one of the City’s most active civic destinations. The renovation project reimagined the aging exterior grounds to better support evolving community needs while preserving the site’s cherished natural character, including its mature trees, rolling lawns, and iconic pond setting.
Working closely with the City and community stakeholders, Verde Design led an extensive outreach process that included public meetings, online surveys, and pop-up engagement events to help shape the project vision and priorities. The result is a thoughtfully designed outdoor environment that functions as an extension of the Community Center’s indoor activities while creating new opportunities for recreation, events, and social gathering.
The renovated grounds feature upgraded walkways and water features, a new modern plaza and event space, playground, picnic areas with BBQs, outdoor recreation amenities, and a flexible seating terrace designed to support both everyday use and larger community events such as the annual Hands on the Arts Festival. Additional improvements include outdoor table tennis, cornhole, chess tables, upgraded electrical infrastructure, and targeted Wi-Fi enhancements to support programming and activation throughout the site.
Verde Design is honored to have partnered with the City of Sunnyvale on this important community project and congratulates the City on the successful opening of a renewed civic space that will serve residents for generations to come.
