Verde Design is proud to celebrate the grand opening of the new all-inclusive, outer space-themed playground at Lakewood Park in Sunnyvale, marking a significant milestone in the City’s ongoing park renovation project.

The new playground was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week and officially opened to the community. Inspired by the excitement and wonder of space exploration, the playground creates an imaginative, accessible play environment where children of all ages and abilities can climb, explore, and play together. The project was made possible through matching grant funding from Santa Clara County’s All-Inclusive Playground Grant Program, helping the City expand inclusive recreational opportunities for the entire community.

Since 2022, Verde Design has partnered with the City of Sunnyvale to reimagine the park’s 11-acre site through an extensive community outreach process and comprehensive design effort. The new playground represents the first completed phase of the larger $13.6 million Lakewood Park Renovation Project, which will continue over the coming year. When complete, the transformed park will feature renovated athletic fields, a reconstructed splash pad, a new dog park, skate park improvements, updated picnic areas, new restroom and park support buildings, accessibility enhancements, and energy-efficient site lighting.

Throughout the project, Verde Design has provided community outreach, conceptual design, design development, construction documents, bid support, and construction administration services. Guided by the City’s vision for sustainability, accessibility, and long-term community benefit, the renovation is creating a vibrant neighborhood destination that will serve Sunnyvale residents for generations to come.

Congratulations to the City of Sunnyvale and the community on reaching this exciting milestone. We look forward to celebrating the completion of the full Lakewood Park renovation in 2027.

Verde Design would like to thank the City of Sunnyvale for providing event photography from the recent ribbon cutting celebration.
