Ohlone Community College District is benefiting from three new sports fields on its Fremont campus, following an extensive renovation to its existing athletic facilities. The new athletic complex, located at 43600 Mission Blvd. in Fremont, spans nearly 14 acres and features an NCAA-compliant synthetic turf soccer field, synthetic turf baseball field, synthetic turf softball field, batting cages, and a new plaza that connects the three fields.
Verde Design, a local Landscape Architecture/Civil Engineering firm with specialties in athletic planning and design was selected to partner with Ohlone Community College District and its contractor to deliver the project, which completed this past winter. As part of their services, the Verde team provided master planning, project design, and comprehensive construction administration. Working collaboratively, the Verde team and District staff designed solutions to protect the Campus’ existing and historic/heritage olive trees, which bisect the project site. The team also creatively accommodated the site’s underground utilities and easements to ensure long-term and efficient access. The design also integrated functional elements with aesthetic and environmentally sensitive solutions such as, utilizing native and indigenous plantings throughout the project that not only serve to beautify the space, but also support stormwater management principles and processes.
