MHDP-Graphic_RGB Construction recently began on three new parks in the City of Morgan Hill. These parks will provide casual recreational opportunities and creative play experiences downtown and in the natural space adjacent to the City’s riparian and oak woodlands.

First introduced in 2014 by city planners and later designed by Santa Clara-based landscape architect and local park specialist Verde Design, the three projects will enhance Morgan Hill’s current park and recreational offerings to its residents and many visitors. The projects, now underway, are expected to complete this summer.

Depot Park
Depot Park is set to become an inclusive park that will meet the play needs of children of all ages and abilities. It will feature shade structures, observation areas, colorful and textural landscaping, walkways, railroad-themed décor, public art, and play equipment.

Llagas Creek Park
Llagas Creek Park will include picnicking, natural features such as climbing boulders, play areas, walking/running paths, and will feature the revegetation of natural grassland areas and the creek’s riparian corridor edges. The park will be accessible with the redevelopment of West 3rd Street and Del Monte Avenue, and a new vehicular and pedestrian bridge will be constructed.

Hilltop Park and Trail
Hilltop Park and Trail will draw fitness-minded residents as it will provide vista areas, exercise equipment, bike racks, cycling stations, and pathways for running/cycling that will connect sections of the existing multi-purpose bike trail. Additionally, this park will offer two slides with a thrilling drop of 34 feet. Verde Design is providing site planning, environmental assessments, design, construction documents, and construction administration services for all three parks. The parks’ final design and construction were approved by the Morgan Hill City Council this past winter and have an estimated value of $5.5 million.
