Plans for the new Milpitas Skate Park began three years ago. However, due to lack of funding, the skate park was put on hold until last year. With a bounty of community interest and support from both the Milpitas Youth Advisory Committee and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Commission, the City has moved forward with this project. Verde Design, and its consultant Wormhoudt, Inc., have led enthusiastic public workshops to complete the conceptual design and design development for the skate park at the Milpitas Sports Center. We will also prepare the construction documents and provide construction administration for this exciting and much-anticipated project. Using the information and feedback from a series of workshops, the Verde team created a design for skaters of all ages and ability levels, with observation areas for the street and bowl features of the facility. The layout maximizes the available park space and includes skate features for an exhilarating 20,000 square-foot skate park. The completely ADA-compliant skate park also includes a skatable entry art feature, multiple textured skate surfaces, perimeter fencing, security lighting, picnic area, group area for birthdays, a beginner’s area, an area for 10’x10’ tents and event booths, skatable landscaped C.3 area, shade trees, landscaping, benches, drinking fountains, and night lighting for competitions and City events.
