The City of Sacramento (City) and Verde Design recently celebrated a project award for the ball fields at Army Depot Park. Last week, the park project was honored with bronze award for the Multi-Field Facility of the Year for American Sports Builders Association (ASBA). Verde Design was responsible for the overall design, construction documentation, and construction administration of two natural grass, college level baseball fields. The fields include CMU dugouts with roof structure, 30’ tall backstops, perimeter fencing, foul poles, bleacher seating, and relocated scoreboards. The facility also includes bullpens, batting cage, new irrigation, and flagpoles. Support elements like a new modular restroom, concession, meeting room building, maintenance garage, parking, and storm water lift station were also included. Upon completion of construction and acceptance by the City of Sacramento Parks and Recreation department the fields became part of the City park system.
The ASBA, the national organization for builders and suppliers of materials for running tracks, fields and courts, and recreational facilities, annually recognizes tennis, running tracks, fields and indoor facilities, which exemplify construction excellence. A panel of ASBA members judge entries on elements such as layout and design, site work drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation, and overall impression.
