David-Cutino-ParkThe City of Seaside (City) and Verde Design recently celebrated the grand opening of the renovated David Cutino Park – one of the most heavily-used, multi-purpose parks in the City, which serves more than 30,000 residents. The 6.6-acre park renovation included converting the existing natural grass field to synthetic turf with new fencing, backstop, and access upgrades. Children and adults can now use the fields for both practice and games, regardless of the weather. A skate park was also included in the design, with 6,500 square feet of skate space. To envision the skate elements, we met with local skaters to gather input and ideas, which were integrated. The Seaside community also benefits from park’s newly renovated restroom building and concessions building, both with ADA and code upgrades.

This week, the park project was honored with the 2020 Project of the Year Award, Historical Restoration/Preservation (under $5M project category) by American Public Works Association (APWA). APWA’s national awards program was established to recognize outstanding individuals, groups, and chapters representing the best in the public works profession. The award’s ceremony will be hosted at San Juan Oaks Country Club in Hollister this Wednesday night, and the Verde Design project team will be in attendance.
