Mt-Eden-High-School This past Saturday, the Hayward Unified School District (District) and Mt. Eden High School (School) celebrated the grand opening of the School’s new all-weather track and turf field facility. Student athletes were excited to see and experience the new facility upgrades during the grand opening and will no longer hold weekly practices at the local community college.

The District selected Verde Design as its landscape architect for the project to provide site design, construction documentation, and support for the conversion of a natural grass field and cinder track to an all-weather synthetic turf and track surface. This project marks one of 11 school projects funded by Measure L, a $229 million bond measure approved by District voters in 2014.

The new facility now benefits from bleacher seating for 2,700 spectators, sports field lighting, a new scoreboard, restrooms, concession and ticketing buildings, accessible walkways, and a new, expanded parking lot. As part of these improvements, the entrance to the track and field facility was redesigned as a formal entrance for the campus’ athletic facilities. This enables future baseball and softball venues to share the School’s stadium plaza, concession and restroom buildings, and unifies the campus’ look and feel.
