Dugouts-and-backstop Designs are completed for athletic improvements at two of the Northern Humboldt Union High School District’s high schools, McKinleyville and Arcata. As part of the Measure Q Bond Initiative, these projects will help promote the District’s mission of bringing students high quality, comprehensive education in a safe, supportive environment by providing state-of-the-art facilities for athletic curricular and extracurricular activities.

The design for Arcata High School includes an all-weather track, synthetic turf football/soccer field, natural turf baseball field, restroom, concession, and storage buildings. Drainage improvements will be provided to help with dampness caused by a large creek running beneath the soccer/football field.

McKinleyville’s new facilities will include a resurfaced track with an additional lane, new all-weather D-zones, synthetic turf football/soccer field, resurfaced tennis courts and parking lots, remodeled boys locker room, redesigned weight and wrestling rooms, and a new team room.

Totaling $7 million for both sites, these facilities will help to reinvigorate the athletic programs at the District, and foster school spirit.
